Jesus Hopped The ‘A’ Train – Stephen Adly Guirgis (Initial thinking)

In class, we read through the play and we have currently finished scene 4 in the 1st act. So far, I have found that the language is very different to other books that I have read. Not only because it is a play, but mostly because of the language that was used. Because the people in the play and criminals and officers, they speak in a way that I am not very used to. There are some terms that I didn’t understand that someone who grew up in America or experienced the prison system might understand completely.

This book also contains a lot of swearing and swear words. I personally have never read a book containing so much profanity. I am not uncomfortable with it but it is slightly jarring to read and listen to the interactions and dialogue between the characters in the play. Though we laugh and joke around about it in class, it does add a sense of seriousness to what otherwise could be considered a funny play.
