As we finish off our 2nd unit (Devised), we start our new unit: scripted. Our play is Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, which is about a boy named Gregor who wakes up one morning, and has turned into a beetle. The story is about his family trying to accept him (ultimately failing) and the metamorphosis of the family. Its a dark play about greed and family, and it exposes the worst sides of people.

This week and the one coming up, we’re doing a lot of exploratory work to help us when we’re creating and shaping our excerpts from Metamorphosis. On Monday, we got our scripts and explored with the 7 levels of tension that Berkoff (the playwrite) commonly uses.  On Thursday, we discussed our thoughts about the play and started creating images to show the evolution of Gregor throughout the story.

Overall, I’m really excited to start creating and shaping an excerpt of Metamorphosis.
