Project Week – Initial Planning

I am in a group of 4 and we are planning to go to Cebu, Philippines for our project week.  When discussing with my friends we found that we all wanted to do service and adventure, and therefore decided to go as a group because we all have a similar idea of what we want to do on our trip.  After discussing this, we began looking into possible destinations.  One of our group members parents weren’t comfortable with allowing us to go to Thailand, so we looked at alternatives in other countries.  When we found Cebu we thought that it was a pretty good option considering we would be able to find a service partner to work with there and there would definitely be activity for us to take part in.

During our first stages of planning, we started to search for activity providers who were trustworthy and would be approved by the school.  As soon as we found some we began emailing them requesting their SOP (standard operating procedure) which we would need to get in order for the school to approve the provider.  However, we didn’t have much luck with any of the providers we tried to get in contact with.  After communicating with the outdoor ed department we began to realise that taking part in activity may be out of the option.  Even though we were all extremely disappointed, we decided to try and make the best of the situation and find some good creativity options we can do instead.   (Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.)
