Cuba

This year's dance told the fascinating story of the origin of Cuban Dance Culture through Cuba's rich history and was led by Arundhati Rane and Nimit Mehta.

Our Story

Our dance is inspired by the fascinating history of the Cuban dance culture. Colonisers and local Cubans have experimented with intricate movements and forms of martial arts to form impressive dance styles over the centuries. The origin of Cuban dancing dates back to their colonization, when the Spanish instruments and melodies met the Afro-Cuban culture, thus giving birth to the ‘Punto campesino’ or peasant dances.
