South Africa
This year's dance told the story of post-Apartheid South Africa and was led by Ananya Sriramagopalan and Tanisha Suradkar.our story
South Africa is a country that has witnessed decades of political struggle and turmoil, most notably Apartheid. After the South African people fought bravely for their liberation, there came a period of celebration and expression of love to everyone and their neighbours. Our dance uses styles that came to light post Apartheid such as Pantsula and Kwaito to represent the introduction of new music and dance as a symbol of freedom in South Africa. We also use some reggae to show the diversity within South Africa as much of their culture has been influenced by Jamaica and Caribbean cultures to portray the idea of inclusivity amongst everyone in a society, which came years after severe exclusion and discrimmination.
