My piece ‘Where is home’ is about growing up as a third culture kid over the past 5 or so years. I am originally from the Philippines and I did spend a good chunk of time living there, but after I turned 8, I moved away. Since then, I’ve not lived in the Philippines. But even if I don’t live there anymore, I still feel strongly connected to my home country. This piece explores me questioning how strong that connection is, and where home is to me.

My poem “Roar and Rage” explores the threads that ties us together in this time of adversity. How can we connect with each other despite our separation? How can we reconcile our privilege with the reality of people suffering? This piece asserts the importance of finding that inner self which drives us to our recognition of our common humanity.

My story is simple and lacks complexity. I focused on the act of storytelling and the transfer of understanding/meaning through use of open interpretation. Feel free to create your own story. Enjoy CultuRama. Thanks for the opportunity.

My poem “Breath in, Breath out” focuses on my personal experience of an IB student. It discusses the anxiety and stress that one may face while taking the course. However, although the poem focuses on the 2 concepts, it also portrays the significance of resilience and preserving.

August talks about my days being in Tampines House and my days not being in Tampines House. While writing August, I think a lot about the parts of the day I loved the most and the ones I find myself longing for in the current, unprecedented situation. I think about the smiles I miss the most and hands I wish to hold. August talks about uncertainty and home, and how despite the two sitting on two different extremes, you might just find both in the strangest times.
