USA

This year's dance told the story of the evolution of Jazz and was led by Poppy Oliver and Kaitlin Schuettler.

our story

Our story for the USA is about how songs that were originally slave/work songs in the USA caused the development and love of Blues/Jazz songs. To make the dance truly focused on this, we started with doing a style of dance called ‘gumboot dance’ which we evolve to a folk song. From here we began to move onto more blues-jazz styles and finally show the modern jazz we see today. Our main theme is to showcase the growth and development of blues to jazz both musically and dance-wise. We think it’s important for people to understand how modern jazz has evolved through the years. To do this we had included different styles from these years that intertwine together. We hope that by doing this we will show a new side of the USA and allow the audience to explore more styles, cultures and time periods in the USA.
