Tanzania
This year’s Tanzania dance is lead by Thammie Smithangura and Ella Griffiths.
The dance we will be performing is inspired by cultural dances from the Tanzanian Sukuma tribe. These dance contain the Ujamaa spirit aka ‘familyhood’ in Swahili, as farmers and other workers would perform this dance to portray this spirit which is so often seen in their productive work life. This idea of familyhood and togetherness is evident in the UWC community and despite there being students from different campuses all over the world, this idea of unity and hard work is what forms a bond and connection between all of us. We have chosen very upbeat, active movements to highlight the energy seen in these cultural dances. We wanted to incorporate as much of the culture as possible so we have chosen Tanzanian songs by famous Tanzanian artists. We are excited for you all to watch it.
