The IO really gives me a chance to explore the minority issue which is becoming more and more common worldwide, especially with the recent events on “Black Lives Matter” etc. By focusing on the Muslim minority group, I understand more about the Islamic culture, which helps to eliminate some of my stereotypes due to lack of understanding. I have to admit that before I read Home Fire and the cartoons, I used to think that the hijab is a religious requirement for Muslim women which they must do. However, after reading these two texts, I understood that it is their freedom to wear a hijab, but not like a restriction that they have to wear it. This makes me more open-minded and see different perspectives on the Islamic culture, which is a valuable thing to learn. Therefore, I am really glad that I did the IO on the minority issue because it really provides me with deep insights and various perspectives.
