Week 1- Basics and fundamentals of editing photos through the use of Adobe Lightroom

4th May – 10th May
Adobe Lightroom 3.2.1 is an app used for photo editing, smarter organization, capturing photos, sharing photos.

Firstly, after downloading the app- I had a go at editing a photo using some of the different unknown settings, as a before. Then, I went and explored the in-app Lightroom tutorials, which take you through the process, step by step, explain the different settings (terms), and how to edit better photos.

Just a few of the setting I learned about, and what they do in adjusting a photo

  1. RGB curve
  2. Vibrance
  3. Noise reduction & colour noise reduction
  4. Tones
  5. Contrast
  6. Exposure
  7. Tint
  8. White/Black balance
  9. Texture- detail, smoothness
  10. Grain- size, roughness, detail
  11. Vignette- white/black- feathering, midpoint, m
  12. Linear gradient, and all it’s features
  13. Radial focus
  14. Healing/cloning- to remove or fix errors/ and or points that steal the attention from the main subject.
  15. Brush, and it’s features

& many other features!

I included a few of my just basic trial edits below!

Week 2- Basics and fundamentals of altering photos through the use of Adobe Photoshop

11th May-17th May

This week I started to learn the basics and fundamentals of Adobe Photoshop by using in-app tutorials, and some other tutorials as well as exploring all the different tools on Photoshop.

Some skills included- the use of masks and layers, hiding objects, cloning
& healing, brush, most of the lightroom features come into play in photoshop as well, and many many other features. Adobe Photoshop is a complicated app and will take more time to understand and practice using. I will be spending another week on this in the upcoming weeks in order to create artwork I can show.

Quarantine // Week 3

Week 3-  Re-learning how to solve a 3×3 Rubix cube, and learning how to solve 3×3 cubes faster.

18th May – 24th May

This week I decided to put the screens away more and focused on a more mathematical and hand-skill problem- solving a standard rubix-cube. Rubix cubes wee made by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubi in 1974.

2 years ago, I had actually learned how to solve this rubix-cube, and my record time was just under 4 minutes. My goal now is to achieve under half of that time (2 minutes).

I was able to successfully relearn all the formulas to solve the rubix-cube in a few hours and practiced lots to full engrain them into my muscle memory, I proceeded to time myself (using the basic formula’s) and was able to achieve a time of 2:00.6!

Quarantine // week 4

Week 4- Further application of skills and creating designs using Adobe Photoshop

25th May – 31st May

Week 4, I decided to go back to further my understanding, skills & application on Adobe Photoshop.

Firstly, I decided to try the dispersion effect on a portrait picture of myself from a few years ago using a dispersion effect tutorial. Link

The first one- original, second- my first attempt where I got lost, third- My friend with more expertise in photoshop helped me.

I then tried again with a white background, I believe this one worked much better and was able to follow the tutorial.

Secondly, I decided to further try more effects and special photos as well- this is going to have to spill into the next week- week 5.

Quarantine // week 5

Week 5- Improving the solving speed of a 3×3 Rubix-cube further via practice and tricks

1st June- 7th June                                                                                                                   Through this week, I have continued to practice solving the Rubix-cube a lot, this time has allowed me to master the formulas I need and do these sequential moves much faster from muscle memory.

With a 10 second observation period- I was able to get my time down to         1 minute and 25 seconds (1:25.26)

This has been good so far, and will continue to solve Rubix-cube regularly over the upcoming weeks even if it’s just a few times a week.

Quarantine // week 6-7-8

Week 6/7/8- Special effects via alteration of photos through the use of Adobe Photoshop

8th June- 14th June,  15th – 21st, 22nd – 28th

This week I decided to go back to Adobe Photoshop to try out some special effects from different tutorials with the help of some of my friends, Rhys and Aditya who are very familiar with the Adobe Photoshop software. I found tutorials for different effects and thus, started to try them out.
