Activity Reflection 1 – 19U Basketball

During this competitive basketball season, I believe I was able to grow my skills, learning new plays and developing my accuracy as well as the range of abilities I have available to me during a game. I really enjoyed this season as this was the first year back where SEASAC had resumed, and we were able to travel to Bangkok in order to compete with other schools around Asia.

During training sessions, I developed my fitness as our coaches tried to make an even split in our lessons between fitness and skill development. We spend a good portion of every training session running, and developing our speed, agility, and stamina, which is also highly necessary when in a basketball game. We also learnt many new plays which we were able to use in games, allowing us to switch between different choices, adapting to the team we were playing against. I also felt that I learned a lot through the process of being in this team, surrounded by many girls my age who were very good at basketball, and I was able to learn different techniques and get inspiration from the way they play in order to improve my own game.

I feel like something I still need to improve on is my boxing out as, though I am able to defend quite well, even across the whole court, I am one of the tallest players on the team and therefore I should be getting the most rebounds. In order to do this I need to be better at reacting quickly when shots are taken to box out the opponents and easily gain the rebound and possession for my team.
