Kahaani: Final

LO 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

LO 5  Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

On Thursday January 25th, we finally performed Kahaani in front of an audience, there were two showtimes 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm. I took part in our performance of Dhaakad and the finale.

During our light plot on Sunday, we had five minutes to learn the finale dance. It was definitely a struggle since I did not know the song and it was completely new and different to our current dance. It was fast-paced but after numerous practices with the help and support of other dancers in the showcase, we managed to get it in the end. Due to the lack of space backstage, there was a problem of us dancers getting in on time. Backstage was often crowded with little space for movement. We overcame this problem with better communication with dancers, runners, and the backstage crew. In one of the practices, my row got onto the stage during the last move, from there we were sort of scarred and tried every way to get there on time. In both the 5:30 and 7:30 show we all got there on time!

This is the first time I performed in front of an audience. A lot of us were nervous since most of us were not dancers and not used to the spotlight but we all supported each other and helped each other calmed our nerves. I remember in the first practice, I knew some people from my grade in the dance but not all the members. Through this, I got to meet new people across different grades in high school and work collaboratively. Without Kahaani, I would have unlikely met and talked to these people. We all worked as a team, helped each other do hair and makeup, when rehearsing, we gave each other feedback on how to improve and perform better as a team.

One of the main feedback we received was to smile and have more energy to have better engagement with the audience as well as better portray the “fighter” story. Unfortunately, before the performance, I had some allergies which made it harder to keep up with the high-energy dance and jumping. But I manage to persevere and hopefully hide my struggle during the performance.

I can tell from comparing videos of my first practice to the last performance, as a team, we have definitely improved our collaboration and creating improved our timing and synchronisation. Our moves became cleaner as we wished and our energy level has definitely increased. During the punching move, in my earlier practices, I barely moved my legs but in the actual performance, I found myself smiling more and jumping with more energy. This I believe is an indication of improvement.

Kahaani has been an experience like no other. I have no regrets stepping out of my comfort zone and taking on this challenge that has made me more active and improved my stamina. If I have time in grade 12, I could definitely see myself joining this activity again as it was a fun way to stay healthy while having fun and meeting new people!

The videos are too big to be uploaded so this is the folder with snippets of the 5:30 show!
