For this task we had to pick a current news article that reached all of Galtung’s and Ruge’s 12 criteria for a news article to be posted.  Galtung and Ruge’s criteria for an article relate very strongly to the people or  countries involved relevancy and power.  The news article had to impact a powerful nation and powerful people as well which are the two guidelines that most countries fail to reach.  The article that I chose was on hurricane Florence which has affected a powerful nation and powerful people.  It is also an ongoing story that is constantly creating new headlines which helps it reach the criteria of continuousness.  Here is the BBC’s latest story on the issue as every major news source has multiple articles on it.
