I wanted to write my extended essay on bioethics however I soon realised that the field of bioethics is very broad and that I needed to narrow down my research question in order to conduct any meaningful analysis in this area. After a discussion in Biology class on gene editing, I got curious about CRISPR and decided to explore the science behind the technology and the ethical dilemmas surrounding its use. In my initial research, it dawned on me that the ethics component of my topic required a more in-depth analysis beyond the Biology course. After consulting with my supervisor, I realised that ethics was studied in more detail as part of the Philosophy course. I decided it would make more sense to take an interdisciplinary approach and address the issues in my research topic from a biological and philosophical perspective and find a connection between the two subjects.
