After the IO practice, I found that the main issue was the organization of my speech. This is why I repeated a lot of things and made it way more confusing then it should’ve been. I also felt that my ideas didn’t connect as much as I thought they did, which added to the confusion. I should’ve practiced more to have avoided these problems.
I also didn’t mention some things. I wanted to talk a bit more about Fun Home. In addition to learning from her father’s example to be more open with her identity, she comes to terms to accept her father’s death at the end of the book. So in that way, she’s learned to still hold onto what he has taught her, but is able to let go of that part of the identity she shared with him and create her own new identity. I then wanted to compare that to Sappho. Sappho seems content with having to depend on someone to be apart of her identity. She’s trying to show that when you lose someone, that longing and need for that person never stops.
I will take what I learned from this practice to prepare for the actual one next year.
