Project Week (Lo1, Lo3, Lo5)

LO3-Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Project week is a 1-week service and/or action based trip where students in groups of 4 or 5 travel overseas without adult supervision. We get to be independent and do things such as contacting companies, attending first aid courses, figuring out how to stay under budget, etc.

My group is rafting at Gopeng, Malaysia. We are in contact with the sales director of the company Fariz, that will supply us with rafting, accomdation, food, etc. We have written emails back and forth with him to plan our trip. We ran into a few problems during this process. For instance,  the budget went over so we had to work out with the company how to reduce the price. We thought about reducing our accommodation price by staying in cheaper accommodation they provide.

We all have different roles and I volunteered to be the minute taker. I take notes during meetings as well as note down what we have to do and what we have done already.  I enjoy organizing so I thought this was a good job for me. These are my notes.

For more information, this is our 24’s Rafting Gopeng PW 2020 Doc ,which includes all of our planning.

LO5-Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively, LO1-Identify their own strengths and develop areas for growth

Working with friends can be frustrating at times. Especially when your the ‘responsible one’, which can sometimes feel more of a burden than a compliment.  I’ve ended up doing a lot of the work without getting much help. At first, I felt that it was completely unfair that I had to do most of the work and remind others to complete the rest. However, I began to realize that I was at fault as well. Even though I reminded them quite a few times I wanted them to do, I never did tell them how annoyed or frustrated I actually was. I struggle with is voicing my frustration with others, especially with my friends. Another reason I did most of the work is that I’m also bad at trusting others to help out.  I really need to learn to tell others how I’m feeling and work together to overcome our challenges.
