LO7-Recognize and consider the ethical implications of choices and actions

Before we were in a pandemic, I wasn’t taking the situation too seriously. Especially since everyone around me was joking about it and didn’t seem too worried.  So I was surprised and a bit mad that they canceled Project Week. I thought they were being too careful because the percentage of people infected was still very little and Project Week was still very far away. I was even more surprised when the government announced that school was being shut down for an entire month. I was only thinking about how much work we would have to catch up on and missing out on all the activities and services.

However, the more I read about it and tried to find reliable sources on my own (instead of getting information from Whatsapp threads or others around me), the more I realized the seriousness of the situation and how my actions affected those around me.

Near the beginning of this situation, it was quite immature of me to not realize that some people are more vulnerable to the virus than me. And so I should take this seriously not just for my health, but for those around me as well. Something else I’ve realized that I must be more aware of is the jokes I say. I think it’s okay to make jokes during this time because otherwise, we would constantly wallow in the seriousness and sorrowfulness of it all. But at the same time, I’ve realized to think twice before I say a joke. I don’t want to go too far and offend someone in any way. Even if I didn’t think it was offensive, everyone is taking this differently and I should respect that.

Although I don’t necessarily enjoy the situation we are in right now(like everyone else), I now understand that the country is taking the right precautions and I should follow the guidelines to the best of my abilities.
