CAS Reflection: Activity

Culturama 2019

Reflection 2

Learning Outcome(s):

  1. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

I think I can definitely say my stamina has improved. During the light plot the constant dancing made me feel like I was going to pass out at some point, but I found that on the actual show days the adrenaline that was running through my system from performing in front of the audience was enough to put off the tiredness. In fact, I was able to smile for the entirety of the performances (which was something I was slightly worried about not being able to do)!

This Culturama, instead of me having to figure a way to calm myself down, I turned into the person who encouraged others in my dance. I made a lot of new friends, and for them this was their first Culturama and they were often scared about performing in front of the audience and messing up on stage. I was unsure of how to offer help to them at first since I wasn’t even sure how I was able to overcome my own fear– flashback to Culturama 2018 I had massive stage fright until I had some random epiphany which kicked that out of me. That wasn’t going to work for everyone. So, I decided to sort of hype them up instead of just trying to calm them down; I realised that what really kept me going was constant adrenaline and being excited about performing and hearing cheers from the audience so I tried to instil that in my friends as well.

Ironically, I was the one who messed up quite obviously on the last show on Thursday, but I was still able to smile about it and quickly recover. I’m actually really proud about it; last year I would’ve been absolutely mortified for making even the smallest mistake on stage but this time it literally didn’t affect me at all. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come in terms of overcoming my stage fright, and I think I can say for the most part it’s dissolved.
