As we approach our Global Concern Daraja review meeting, I thought it would be useful to look at my experiences with facilitating the GC this year. As we now enter May, it feels further away than ever that we visited Daraja Academy during the February break. Sometimes it can be difficult to feel directly connected to Daraja due to the sheer distance between our campuses. As our GC rely on letters as our main form of communicating, one aspect which helps to continue the interaction and build our relationship is discussing the four pillars which are the foundation of Daraja which guides their behaviour.

Pillar 1 – Be accountable for the role you play at Daraja, neither neglecting it, nor abusing it.
Pillar 2 – Maintain open communication, speak honestly and listen effectively.
Pillar 3 – Embrace differences and treat all with dignity and respect.
Pillar 4 – Every day, leave it better than you found it.

Currently in Daraja, we have a number of teams working on a range of projects. One of which is the Awareness Team. We hope that by using these pillars to shape some awareness activities within our GC meetings will help us to continue to feel connected to the cause at Daraja. I know that after our meetings every Tuesday lunchtime, each member of the team can acknowledge that they have worked towards pillar 4, which is an excellent achievement in itself and a testament to the wide range of action we are continually working towards.
