One of the many questions that we get as Psychology Teachers is what can I do to improve my grade? The rationale behind this ‘Dig a little Deeper’ series is to provide some guided extension tasks for students who want to explore a topic further and develop a broader or more detailed understanding of a concept whilst working collaboratively with others.
‘Dig a Little Deeper’ Series has three main aims:
-
Techniques – An opportunity for you to practise and learn techniques of description and critical analysis through a range of tasks
-
Community – To create a community where we can learn from each other and share our initial ideas without having the constraints of meeting times and locations
-
Feedback – To provide and receive constructive feedback that will help you strengthen your knowledge and understanding in Psychology
What is ‘Dig a Little Deeper’?
At at the end of your Psychology lessons, you may have many questions or thoughts about the new concepts, research or theories that you have learnt about. Dig a little deeper aims to provide you with that opportunity to continue to ask questions, along with directing you to further research that may stimulate your thinking. It is also recommended additional components of work that would be beneficial. Have you ever wanted to put in more effort to a subject to get better at it but not sure where to start? Rather than mindlessly picking random essays to write, this structure guides you weekly through additional aspects you could explore, question or practise.
What can I expect to find by participating/watching/completing in Dig a little deeper?
The series will use a range of multi-media platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, podcasts and web-based articles to give you access to broader reading on a particular topic area. There will be specific tasks and/or questions to complete each week based upon your Psychology classes and the content that has been covered in the IB Psychology course. Finally, there will be a number of meet up sessions with a Psychology teacher where you will be able to discuss your thoughts, findings or unanswered questions amongst other Psychology students.
How Long should I spend on Dig a little deeper?
Dig a little deeper is not a compulsory component of your Psychology classes. We’re aware of how much work you currently have to manage so there is no pressure to complete the tasks. Some of you may follow the series weekly, other may follow and choose to complete areas you feel you need to focus on improving.
We’re also aware of how many of you want to expand and continue to challenge your knowledge outside of the Psychology classroom, so this is an opportunity with guided input from your teachers to do so.
How often will ‘Dig a little deeper’ be available?
Each week, a new task will appear in the ‘Dig a Little Deeper’ classroom. The tasks will very each week and be related to a specific approach.
Who is Dig a little deeper open for?
Currently it will be available for Grade 12 students at UWCSEA East taking IBDP Psychology.
