One of the issues that we’re faced with in society is the controversy surrounding how these questions are answered in the media. Sometimes conclusions are simplified for pubic understanding and therefore findings misinterpreted, with reductionist claims made about behaviour. As a result, misinformed claims can increase taboo surrounding certain behaviours like Sexuality, leading to stigma and a lack of understanding. Therefore, along with wanting to search for the answers, there are ethical dilemmas involved in pursuing the facts.
This project will enable us to draw conclusions for the following two questions:To what extent do our genetics influence our behaviour? How are our genetics and our environment independent and interdependent?
As Psychology students, in order to answer these questions, we know we need to look at evidence-based research to be able to draw informed conclusions. The goal of this project is to create a resource, guide or lesson that can be incorporated into the PSE curriculum, or within another area of the school to provide our community with a thorough understanding of the role that genetics play in our behaviours.
The resource you create, should be a sufficient quality for teachers or other students to use, and can be in the format of a leaflet, video, presentation, blog posts, podcasts.
