8 key terms from my essay–A Comparative Study of French Romantic Art and British Romantic Art

Rationality: the quality of being based on or in accordance with reason or logic.A classic from Isaac Asimov, posted by Jeremy Bruno:

“How often people speak of art and science as though they were two entirely different things, with no interconnection. An artist is emotional, they think, and uses only his intuition; he sees all at once and has no need of reason. A scientist is cold, they think, and uses only his reason; he argues carefully step by step, and needs no imagination. That is all wrong. The true artist is quite rational as well as imaginative and knows what he is doing; if he does not, his art suffers. The true scientist is quite imaginative as well as rational, and sometimes leaps to solutions where reason can follow only slowly; if he does not, his science suffers.”

Enlightenment: the action of enlightening or the state of being enlightened.Art During the Enlightenment. Previous to the enlightenment, the dominant artistic style was Rococo. When the Enlightenment and its new ideas took hold, Rococo was condemned for being immoral, indecent, and indulgent, and a new kind of instructive art was called for, which became known as NeoclassicismImage result for Enlightenment in art

Nostalgia: a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.A look at art that uses the aesthetics of 1990s graphic design to become new. … Nostalgia is an intellectual and aesthetic crutch that prevents cultural artefacts from reflecting their own epochs.Image result for Nostalgia in art

Aesthetic: concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty.a set of principles underlying and guiding the work of a particular artist or artistic movement. Aesthetics is for the artist as Ornithology is for the birds. Some separate aesthetics and philosophy of art, claiming that the former is the study of beauty while the latter is the study of works of art. It examines topics such as aesthetic objects, aesthetic experience, and aesthetic judgments.Image result for aesthetic art

Diagonals: a straight line joining two opposite corners of a square, rectangle, or other straight-sided shapes.Art Composition Structure #3 – Diagonals. Diagonal lines in paintings are great for creating a dynamic design. Science individual essay

Through the project, I learned that sustainability is the ability to protect the environment, ecological footprint can show the natural resources that people spend in their daily life.Sustainability is inseparable from the ecological footprint, cause one aspect of sustainability can be seen from the ecological footprint, thus people can improve what they are doing in lives, base on that, they might try to find the way to think out the way to change something in their life style to help protect the environment. So everyone can achieve the protection of the earth to protect the environment and save natural resources.

Above is my footprint result, as you can see, I am not a very sustainable person. In the result, I realise two of the habits that contribute the most are travel and services.I do this footprint calculator based on my life in China, for the services, I think it relates to the waste in my daily life.Normally there are 3 or even 5 people living in one house, because of the number of people, so our rubbish is more than our neighbours, and most of the trash are about food waste, clothes that can’t be worn anymore, and some plastic water bottles without water inside and can not be recycled.I have learned that most of the garbage is destroyed by incineration, and the incineration itself causes damage to nature. If plastic is burned, the plastic will produce toxic gases such as hydride, hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide when it burns. A large amount of garbage is burned, the generated gas will pollute the air and harms the human body. This toxic gas damages people’s lungs, trachea, skin, and respiratory system.During the garbage burning process, the ash produced will fly into the air and pollute the environment. Not all the trash is going to be burned, rest of them is going to be in the ocean, although this is the only way to deal with garbage at present, the damage to the natural environment is very serious.

For the travelling, I need to spend a lot of time on the plane cause I study in Singapore, from China to Singapore once it costs more than 5 hours, at the same time, our school have plenty of vacations, and when it’s time, I have to go back to China cause I am boarder in school and the rule is if we are not scholarship we can not spend our whole holiday in boarding house. All in all, I believe air travel is the biggest problem for me and the services(trash)is the second problem.I search for air travel and the website says:”Unfortunately, air travel is one of the more environmentally damaging activities we can undertake. Globally, the aviation industry is responsible for roughly 2% of carbon dioxide emissions, but that is rising quickly as more people fly more often.”During the flying, it costs lots of energy so plane will release a lot of carbon dioxide in the air, and burning releases greenhouse gases into Earth’s atmosphere and oceans.

Take it more serious, if everyone is doing the same thing that can causes the pollution, so the seawater is polluted, the air is polluted, so the ozone layer is destroyed, causing global temperatures to rise, icebergs to melt, animals to die, and human life is threatened.

Dealing with the garbage, me and my family will use less plastic water bottles, if we have to use or buy it we can have the type that can be recycled.I think there are many ways that can let us recycle the plastic bottle, for example, I can turn it into watering tool or flower pot.We can use the clothes that we can’t wear anymore to make ‘eco bag’, or donate it to somewhere that the children don’t have enough money to buy clothes. For food, do not over-serve and store food correctly in the fridge to keep food fresh.

Dealing with the air travel, although the air travel is the only way I can arrive Singapore, I can choose direct flights as direct as possible, and compare some different airline and choose a more sustainable one.During the vacation, fly as less as possible, try to avoid flying as much as possible. If I can take the train or bus to travel, I can save up to 90% in CO2 emissions.

If I only have one choice from waste and air travel, I will choose control the waste cause it’s easier to deal with and I can start doing that from some small things in my life.

Personal statement

In my childhood, I dreamed that I will be a designer who can design the most beautiful pink dress in the world so I can put on the dress and walk around to show people that I got talent for it.Through the years, I have grown up, but I still have a designer dream, I don’t know I have it because of my childhood or my reality thinking, but I know if I am going to reach it, I need to spend enough energy and time in art, and I need to let my time become worth it.

When I was studying in junior high school, one of my classmates told me to go to a sketch class, cause if we improve the sketch skills and pass the A-Level of drawing exam, we will get 6 more scores when we have the middle school entrance examination. When I started to learn sketching, I had an impure thought about it, but when I really learned something, I was deeply attracted by it.I believe to help myself achieve the design goal, I need to improve my basic drawing skill and my self-management, also my creativity.Because of an essay, I find that I still can’t understand some art work deeply, I guess it’s because I can’t get the emotion of the artist so I also need to learn about the history of art.

My dream is not going to be design a beautiful pink dress(probability it will become one of the creative thought) but it’s the starting point that let me have the dream and work on it.I am doing well through the term and I am still being enthusiastic about art.

Here is my notes for the recording above:

Do we worry too much about the effects technology has on our lives?

Technology makes our life much more convenient. I think that the benefits of technology to people outweigh the disadvantages. When people use technology in an incorrect way, there will be some bad influences. But in fact, technology brings a lot of advantages to our Life, and this is a point that has to be confirmed. Some people are addicted to technology, such as their mobile phones and computers, but this is a very small chance that won’t happen to everyone that use them. Technology is the improvement of our quality of life and the development of the times.

Final Podcast Round Up

Which three quotes from here link with your experience in the podcast project? What makes you say so? How is this useful fro you as we enter the last three months of the year?

  1. “your talent and your intelligence don’t play nearly as big of a role as you might think. The research studies that I have found say that intelligence only accounts for 30% of your achievement — and that’s at the extreme upper end.”
  2. “It wasn’t strength or smarts or leadership potential that accurately predicted whether or not a cadet would finish Beast Barracks. Instead, it was grit — the perseverance and passion to achieve long–term goals — that made the difference.
  3. “Mental toughness is like a muscle. It needs to be worked to grow and develop. If you haven’t pushed yourself in thousands of small ways, of course you’ll wilt when things get really difficult.”

From this article, I learned that talent is not the most important thing. Although many people think that talent is the leader of what they want to do, if they have no talents and skills, they cannot succeed on their own. But this article puts forward the opposite theory, that the effort (Mental Toughness) is not worse than the talent. When I was doing Dper project this time, I had a lot of places that I found difficult to do. For example, I didn’t know how to make the intro and outro music for introducing me and my partner, but through my efforts plus friends’ help,I still finished the music producing. Beside this,  I didn’t know how to write show notes, I only know that I need to put all kinds of links that we used during the project,  I stayed on the show notes for a while. But after a period of reference and learning, I also completed this task. It is useful because it always makes me confident and doesn’t give up what I can’t do.

As you listen to your partner agreement responses, where do you think you should have thought more about collaboration? Which pieces of advice could you have thought more deeply about and why? Now that you’ve worked with different partners, what is it that you MOST need from a partner during a project and how do you know?

I think that in addition to seeing the final results, the process of cooperation between me and my partners is also very important. In the course of this cooperation, I found that there was not enough communication between us. Although we are all boarders, we can not discuss the details about dper’s homework every time we met. Although we have set up a plan to help us complete the work, but if the time was disrupted, I would  forget about the audio recording one day. I believe that if the communication between us could improve, the task should be more efficient and faster. But in general, my partner and I are very responsible and very cooperative about this topic.

Which part of the tool (see below) was the sharpest for you in this project? Which part do you think you need to spend more time using and why? How would using that tool have helped with this project?

I think for me, through this project, I am more open to others, and “others” can refer to my classmates and my family. For family part,  it’s because the theme of this challenge is to use voice chat (audio recording) but not typing to chat with my family. When I use voice chat, the emotions and inner thoughts that I spoke will be communicated to my parents at the first time instead of thinking twice about it after I finished typing. I don’t have much time to think, and my family they also use voice chat to chat with me and they are happy to do so. As for the relationship between me and my classmates, cause I had many questions that I did not know how to do, after I found there was a question that I couldn’t understand I would go  to my classmates to find help, and they were willing to help me. My partner and I also cooperate very well in this project, so I feel that I am more open to others and the distance between people is closer.

Thank you for reading, have a nice day.

Show notes

For the challenge choosing, we chose “Every day send one 2-3 minute voice recording to a friend/family member who lives outside of Singapore” from the Challenge lists.Base on this, me and my partner had a buddy conversation to get to know each other and learn more details that can help us work better together. To finish the challenge, here is our Planner for helping us to put our audios everyday. Before the task, I read a show notes from others, and you can see the details of my understanding from Doris’s reflection. For introducing the challenge better, me and my partner Gwenda did two Intro and Outro music.

After the Challenge week, we need to relate the challenge with 4 threads:

Here are the 4 threads we have answered:

  • How did your challenge remind you of the 16 things to stop doing? Which one in particular and why?
  • How did your experience with the challenge confirm or reject any of the findings here?
  • Would you recommend this challenge to others, why or why not?
  • Do you control your technology or does your technology control you?

Here is the Final Podcast, it can show you the final product.

Thank you for your reading 😛
