Yayoi Kusama is a 92 year old Japanese contemporary artist. She creates different types of art, such as sculptures, paintings, installations, but they all have a common feature – her use of polka dots.
Yayoi’s use of dots began when she experienced hallucinations and visions at a young age. Her mother was discouraging of her art and was also physically abusing towards her. Her father was a “womaniser” and because of that, her mother would often send her to spy on her father’s external affairs, which instilled a lifelong contempt for sexuality.
