Organizational values are often seen as very important when working in a professional setting or a work setting. However, personal values are not commonly seen and are usually put aside. This is peculiar because a person’s personal interests usually lead to the profession they decide to choose, and values make us the people that we are. This is because many wish to work in a field that they are passionate about and work in a workplace that aligns with their values. In the research done by Forbes, they also found that many people had specific careers depending on their personal values. For example, if someone was creative, they would usually take upon an artistic career or a musical path.
Furthermore, I think that valued based decisions help us to make our lives happier, especially in a work setting. If you don’t have a career that you desire, you can often be unhappy or not satisfied with your life. Even for this reason alone, we should begin valuing our personal values more and continue using them in our daily lives. It is easily forgotten how much our values mean to us every day and finding our values is a crucial part of finding our own identity.
After all, organizational values will only take you so far, the rest is up to your creativity, your identity, and your personality to choose your future. Of course, building strong organizational values may be important, it might not truly be worth losing ourselves for it. You create your future, and how can you do that if you don’t even know who you are.
