In G12, we have currently been doing a lot of research into Amala and the current refugee crisis. I think this has been quite a productive process because although I have been in this service for 3 years now, there is still a lot of refugee news I am learning every day. Most recently, we did two research projects on both the situation in Afghanistan and Syria. The Afghanistan project was very insightful as it helped me learn a lot more about the recent refugee crisis. Currently, 2.2 million Afghan refugees are already in neighbouring countries and the lack of education for the youth (especially girls) is very prominent. I think learning more about these sorts of situations around the world have proven to me the importance of the work Amala does and the severity of the current refugee crisis. I think these issues have also been exacerbated by the effects of COVID and believe it is very important for us to continue supporting organisations that work with the refugee youth.
We have also been assigning new leadership positions with the G10s. I was a part of the election process and the training process will start soon. I think by training and coaching the new chairs, we are able to pass on the work that we have done in previous years and allow for another successful year! I will continue this service for the rest of the year but take on a more supportive role within the group, helping everyone out when need be.
