Jazz Combo is another activity I am doing for my creativity. One big challenge I have to face in this creativity is doing improvised solos in front of the class.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
It is quite nerve-wracking to perform in front of a whole group of people and it is definitely something I need to work more towards.

To improve my skills in basketball so I can play for the school, I joined U19 pre-season basketball. We had practice every Tuesday morning from 6:30 and Thursday afternoon at 6:00. Practice is very tough but it improved my fitness and basketball skills.
LO1-Identify their own strengths and develop areas for growth. Students are able to see themselves as individuals with various abilities and skills, of which some are more developed than others.
My main strength is defense. These strengths benefit my team in stopping the other team from scoring. Something I need to improve more on is shooting, especially three point shots. By getting better at shooting I will be able to help my teammates score more. Throughout this season I have improved on my dribbling and driving skills.

I am continuing my work in the Tabitha Global Concern this year. I have been in this GC for 2 years and I plan to continue this for the next two years.
LO4-Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences. Students can articulate the stages from conceiving an idea to executing a plan for a CAS experience or series of CAS experiences
I have shown resilience and commitment in this GC by being part of it for 2 years and continuing it. I participated in the planning and execution of every event held by this GC: Walk for Water, Family Festival, Nails for Nokor, etc. My commitment in this GC has impacted a lot on the success of the GC. Tabitha is quite small compared to other GCs in this school and my commitment made a noticeable impact on the speed and efficiency things ran. I helped by doing marketing, direct selling, planning posters, and many other things that helped.

This is my second year in Jazz Band. I play the Tenor Sax 1 role within the band.
LO5-Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively.
Students are able to identify, demonstrate and critically discuss the benefits and challenges of
collaboration gained through CAS experiences.
Being in the second year of this band, I understand already the need to collaborate. In a musical piece, there are lines where many people play similar things, lines where many people play different things, and lines where only some people play. To achieve a good sound of unity, there must be collaboration between the sectionals as well as the whole band. My conductor said the band will sound like a “school band” when everyone plays their own part. Even if everyone plays their part correctly, it will still sound bad compared to a band playing together with a few wrong notes. To accomplish this, using your ears to listen to people playing your part or people providing contrast and adapting accordingly is the best way.
We have worked on many pieces in the first season, now we are starting to prepare these pieces for the December Wavelength concert. I am excited to show our results in the future.

A book I read recently is A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. In the book, Hawking explores scientific theories of gravity from Newton’s laws to Einstein’s relativity to quantum physics. He also wrote about the discovery of black holes and his own research on it. The book had some difficult parts in it but the diagram inside helped. I found it quite interesting how scientific theory involved in explaining the world evolved over the years. Newton’s gravity constant explained almost everything we see about gravity except a small difference in Mercury’s orbit. Einstein then came along to develop a new theory in which Mercury’s orbit was, in fact, calculated correctly. However, his model did not fit gravity among tiny particles on a quantum level. The uncertainty principle states that nothing can be measured 100% accurately, there will always be an uncertainty. This uncertainty affects small particles more than large objects, but does this mean that science cannot progress further? Is it that we can never find out the truth of how the universe works?
This booked answered many of my previous questions I had in my mind when I studied physics involving the speed of light and black holes. A few things that I haven’t considered before that I found interesting:
- Black holes are completely black, and so is the space behind them. It is incredibly hard to tell that a black hole exist other than from calculations of gravity around them.
- The book mentioned that neutrons were discovered less than a century ago, yet it is something we learn in primary school now.
- Physics is changing very fast. In a few decades, what we learn in school might be completely different from what people then learn in school. This questions the durability of knowledge and how relevant they will be in a few decades.
