I collaborated with the children in Blue Dragon when we produced a circus performance as a fundraiser for them. The tickets were sold to primary schoolers and parents, and the money was donated to Blue Dragon GC.
The most challenging part of this was dealing with the communication barrier. Some did not speak english, and some were deaf. However, we managed to share and develop our poi and barrel skills to create a show that we were proud of.
This event was not only helpful in raising money for the kids, but it was helpful in making me understand the power of movement and play. These simple things transcend country borders, language barriers, religion and even disability. Movement unites us, and circus is the most exciting and playful form there is.
