For this weeks session, the activity planned was making jewellery and paper bracelets. Pre-paper strips were used to make the bracelets. The residents could colour or draw patterns on the paper to design their original band that they could keep. The jewellery making tested the residents hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as it required them to slot small beads through the string we prepared. For both activities, we could enhance their cognitive abilities by asking the resident the colour or other aspects. Also through this activity, we were able to build intimacy with them and a sense of belonging by possibly having matching bracelets. Looking at the overall result of the activity, it was decent as most groups were able to make one or a few bracelets with their residents. However, not everything was perfect. Some groups started to have conversations rather than focusing on the activity. We could improve by explaining the activity better or reducing the effort to use fine motor skills to fit their abilities in order to keep them focused on the task.
