Volleyball Reflection #2
This is my reflection for the end of the volleyball season.
I have chosen to focus this reflection on the learning outcome of commitment (LO4). I definitely think that I showed perseverance, resilience and commitment throughout this activity. One of the main ways in which I showed commitment in this activity was by attending each practice, and making sure that I wad fully focused and present during each session. I was injured for a few weeks during the season, and even when I couldn’t play, I made sure that I attended each practice, and the games that we had scheduled. I made sure that I was present in order to be with the team during practices, and cheer for the team during games. I think that during each session that I could play in, I made sure to put in all of my effort, and I tried my best to improve during the season so that I could play better during the games. I also made sure to play my best even when I was tired during practices, and I pushed and challenged myself during practices in order to get the most out of the season.
I maintained my motivation for this activity because I really enjoy playing volleyball. Although I have only been playing for a few years, I have developed a real passion for the sport and I therefore really enjoy playing the sport, even if it is just for fun. This is also why I have decided to be a part of the Volleyball Club that is running in Season 2. I think that the fact that I was improving my skills throughout the season also increased my motivation for the activity. I knew that by constantly attending the sessions, and being committed to the sport and to the team, I would improve my skills and be able to play better than before. I also knew that I would be improving my fitness levels, which was definitely a goal of mine at the start of the season, and still is.
I think that my commitment to the sport definitely helped me improve my overall playing in volleyball. During the season, I was able to target some of the parts of volleyball that I knew I was not as good at, and I was able to work on these areas. Participating in the season therefore definitely helped me improve my skills in volleyball and improve my fitness levels, but it also helped me reduce my stress levels, which I think was a definite success regarding the activity. Being able to play for two hours three times a week forced me to be active, and to think about something other than my schoolwork and tests – I really think that this time benefitted me in terms of my levels of stress at the start of the year.
I think that one of the main things that could have affected my ability to persevere would be the amount of work that I had, as well as dealing with the pressures of a new school and a new environment. I found it quite difficult to play for two hours three times a week, especially since I do not live too close to school. This therefore made me slightly unfocused at some points during training, especially if I had a test or some sort of assessment the next day. However, I made sure that I managed my time in order to stay focused during the sessions, and after a few weeks, I think I was able to do so successfully. Overall, I really enjoyed this season and I think that it definitely helped me improve in three areas that I was targeting: my skills, my fitness and my stress levels.
