This session, I booked more active equipment to try and get more of the clients to interact with each other using skittles and a basketball hoop. However, I found that around most of the clients just stayed coloring or playing with musical instruments and they were having fun. I realized that the purpose of the service is not to make our clients be active to interact with each other, but our clients can interact differently. We are still able to have meaningful conversations with our clients while they are coloring and we can play with the musical instruments with them. I learned that the service is more about making them happy and making a difference in their lives more than anything and the methods and equipment we use only helps us do this. I think I am going to keep booking active equipment, but I think we should just let our clients choose to do what they want and we have to accommodate that.

How I made a difference so far in my Service.

As the logistics head, I get the materials at break on Thursday for our clients to use and sometimes fill in the form for equipment. I try and get new materials so things get boring but most of the time its crayons, 3 dodgeballs, 3 hula hoops and a variation of musical instruments. On the first Monday back, I felt like the energy had improved from the end of the last term and people were putting in more effort into making the individual clients happy and feel good. I often work with Ian who is really easy to talk to because he keeps asking questions. It can get really tiring since he often repeats the same questions and asks a lot of them. However, if you look on his personality and his motivation to make a relationship with us, it makes me feel fine answering all the questions he asks since I know it doesn’t really matter what my answer is.
