What kind of music have you been listening to recently? How do certain songs or artists make you feel? What songs do you think are important or significant right now?

A song that I have started listening to recently is the song “The Man” from Taylor Swift’s latest album, Lover which was released in August 2019, it is a pop style song and so is very approachable to all, especially teenagers and has a message that I connect to. In the song,  Taylor Swift imagines what life would be like if she were an incredibly wealthy white man, instead of an incredibly wealthy white woman and reveals all the privileges and the double standard that she would have. This song has a very feminist approach, talking about the rights and opportunities that women have and how different they are compared to men’s. The song had a significant impact and was appreciated by Malala Yousafzai and Kristin Chenoweth.  During the UK’s parliament debate a line from the song was quoted. “women aren’t left running as fast as they can, wondering if they’d get there quicker if they were a man”, discussing the issue of the need for gender equality across the workforce and greater protection for women against domestic violence.
