maths and me

My name Anjika and I was in FIB. I consider myself to be quite confident with math, especially the things that I have learnt before. However, new things are sometimes it’s hard for me to grasp onto and learn. When I first learn things, I would prefer to be taught it in a few ways so that I can then choose which method I like best and work with that. I would ask my friends, the teacher or my tutor to help me with that question but I would only go to my tutor if I don’t understand the entire topic or unit. I feel like time management would be where I would work on but I am quite a risk taker.

How I have been affected by life in Singapore

I’m an Indian by heritage but I have a Singaporean passport and I was born and raised in Singapore which makes this country the only place I’ve lived in. Since I’ve only lived in one country, some would expect that I have not been exposed to different cultures but life in Singapore has allowed me to meet people from all around the world. The locals in Singapore have much more different beliefs and morals than foreigners in Singapore, many of which I have met in UWC. The contrasting values have always confused me because I do not preach only local or foreign beliefs. In a way, my views don’t fit in with either a local Singaporeans or an Indians, but some traits of both build up my mindset. Many Singaporean expectations have always affected the way I make decisions just like how some of my Indian heritage influences my views. For instance, local schools are heavily academic based which removes emphasis on character development and many experiences or opportunities. However, I have that constant pressure to perform academically at the back of my mind. On the other hand, I have the luxury of choosing my views and beliefs due to the wide range I have by being a local and a foreigner in the country I have stayed in my whole life.
