SEASACxSAIS MUN 2018

I attended SEASACxSAIS MUN from the 2nd-4th of March 2018. This conference was one of the higher level conferences that I have attended and was a fantastic opportunity for me to engage with a wider audience and delegates I had never met before, in a committee I had never experienced before.

I, along with my friend and co-trainer, was the delegate of the USSR in the Historical Security Council (HSC). I have previously experienced regular SC in the form of a Joint Communique with the committee I was chairing – Advisory Panel (APQ), but this was the first time I truly experienced SC to its full potential.

Being a delegate is almost a foreign concept to me now as the last time I had been one before SEASAC was in November of 2016 in the MUNOFS IX and YLW. While I had taken part in conferences since then, I had only been a chair, and even in the club, I had not been a delegate since I got chosen as a trainer at the beginning of Grade 11. However, that did not stop me from doing my best, and I found that the experience was one of the most enjoyable and informative ones.

As it was HSC, I had to research deeply into the two crises we would be debating, and hence browsed through a lot of historical context. This added to my already enhanced love for history and allowed me to concentrate more on the MUN side of things. I further learned the correct procedure for SC as it is different to that of every other committee, and was able to make friends with many different people in my committee from SAIS and other schools both in and out of Singapore.

Overall, the experience was incredibly useful when considering the MUN skill I gained, but was also helpful in forming friendships and exploring my passions as a historian and debater. I am looking forward to more conferences in the future.

Above are a few photos with my co-delegates and friends at the conference

LO1 – Identifying your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

LO2 – Demonstrate that you have undertaken, developing new skills in the process

LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in you CAS experiences
