I have made a google form survey which I sent out to heads of grades so that I can collect data on the UWC community’s thoughts on adopting pets vs buying. Some questions include:

Do you have a pet?

Is it adopted?

Would you be open to fostering/adopting?

Can you list some of the problems with buying pets? (non-mandatory)

Edit: Head of Grades said that posting forms on the OLP doesn’t get much attention, and its better to post on more specific and smaller groups such as my mentor class.

My service would include working with and animal shelter such a ASD or CAS. I prepared this presentation to pitch my idea to service department.

I had my meeting with Mr. Hannah, the head of service and Ms. Farah, head of local service. They said to start it as a Focus Group instead of a Local Service, in Season 3 and 4. Mr. Hannah also mentioned that there was a service that has similar aims but they suffered couple problems:

• Few students signed up for trips, and some didnt show up for the trip so it ended up being about 2 students and 1 teacher in one bus.
• The centre was also quite far off.
• Fundraising is much more difficult in recent times.
• the centre reserved 5 spots for our volunteers, yet we showed up with 2, and it ended up being a disservice to the centre.

These are all problems which I must avoid. Anyways now, we cannot travel to the centre so that delays our problems, but I need to find a permanent solution. We could set up less frequent trips but help out in other ways such as fundraising and raising awareness. We could also help set up adoption drives (possibly in school). Anyways, for now, I will put this on the back burner and at the end of september, try to find at least 10 people across HS to join the service. I still don’t know what to name it though:(
