Overall, I believe my first daft of the EE was successful in that I was able to present all the ideas I wanted to cover in the space I was allotted. My research has been successful to an extent; I’ve found enough arguments to contrast the two ideas on why the French revolutionary wars were total wars. It’s not complete, as I still need more facts to back up the conflicting ideas I describe, as well as a diversity of sources from both contemporary and modern periods. My research process itself has not changed massively; I seek sources that address the philosophical developments of the period or detail the events of the beginning of the French revolutionary wars. I believe my understanding of the debate has improved: I have finally ascertained the exact nature of my central argument: the material conditions following the revolution against the ideologies of the new French government.
