What connections can you make between Thetis, Salome and Little Red Cap? What connects this poem to some of the adverts we have looked at so far?

The three poems “Thetis”, “Salome” and “Little Red Cap” written by Carol Ann Duffy all have a common theme of gender roles and power. All three poems are a way for Carol Ann Duffy to show her passion towards different gender issues. Thetis, Salome and Little Red Cap are all women that have been illustrated to be seen as more powerful than men and how they are better off by themselves in life. The characters Salome and Little Red Cap are both seen as more controlling over men and more powerful whereas in the poem “Thetis”, Carol Ann Duffy shows us how Thetis can adapt to any environment challenging or not which is a way for us readers to see and realise how much of a strong women Thetis is which is a way for Carol Ann Duffy to deliver her common themed message about gender roles and power. Carol Ann Duffy used the famous story of “The little red riding hood” and changed it slightly to try a deliver her common message of gender roles which turned into “Little Red Cap” which is the female protagonist (who is suppose to be seen as the little red riding hood) adapting to “the big bad wolf’s” control due to her being seen as fragile, vulnerable and weak.
