My life has been constantly changing. I was born in Malaysia, and moved to Australia when I was two. Both mum and dad graduated from Australia and because of that their english was good and had no accents. But not good enough. They both grew up in Malaysia, a multi-cultural and lingual country. It is common for people in Malaysia to mixed languages/dialects and code switch frequently, because of this, both my parents can speak 7 different languages and dialect. Growing up in Australia, I missed out. Although they thought me Chinese and I naturally learnt english during school, there are still aspects of language that I have mastered. Going back to Malaysia, everything feels so disconnected. When communicating with the locals in Chinese or Malay, they will just reply back in English. We both knew it was easier that way.
