Human Acts Initial Thoughts

I’m really excited to be reading this book. Whilst it isn’t particularly fast paced, I think the book is quite sad which makes it engrossing. So far, I have had a little difficulty understanding who the different characters are and keep getting mixed up with who’s who.

It’s quite interesting that the book is written in the second person. It made reading the book seem quite unnatural. I also feel that because it’s written in the second person, somehow I didn’t feel as sad and I didn’t sympathize as much with the characters than if it was written in the third or first person.

Something that stood out to me was how the author introduced the 2 other people working at the provincial office, they are introduced as women. Because of this I assumed they are much older especially considering the maturity needed to be taking care of dead bodies. However it is soon revealed that one of them is in high school while the other is in her early 20s.
