THE FISH TANK-LO7

LO7

Stage 2 of CAS

2. Preparation- Planning the experiences

We had been given a generous donation from an outside source, who said they would like the money to be spent inspiring young marine biologists. The service team felt that the best way to spend this money, was to build an ethical, and educational fish tank.  One of the biggest challenges was in finding a suitable place for the tank. Initially, we planned to build it on the 6th floor of the C block, where the bio classes are. However, after some consultation with experts we realized that the floor would not be able to support the tank because the tank weighed the same amount as an adult elephant. We tried to build it in the library, and I tried to convince the librarians that it would be therapeutic for students studying in the library,  but the librarians weren’t keen on the idea. Eventually, we agreed to put the fish tank in the cafeteria. The cafeteria was the only place that was architecturally sound enough, the noise wasn’t loud enough to disturb the fish (unlike in the garage), and it was a place that was used by students of all grades every day.
