Geography – Three gorges Dam. Was it worth it?

I believe that the Three Gorges Dam in Yangtze River, China was worth it. This Dma has been running for 16 years and in this time it has been able to provide sustainable energy to 1/3 of the households in China from the HEP. They are saving 50 million tons of coal, causing less harmful greenhouse gases. China is already suffering from bad emissions and because of this dam, they are taking a big step forward to a cleaner, healthier environment. The river has caused the water to distill causing more rubbish to build up and silting, but this has provided thousands of jobs to the locals. The Dam itself has also provided thousands of jobs and made people real privileged to be working in such an important part of the countries development.

Over time the Dam has been able to control the river levels making them rise or fall as they please. This helps stop flooding which has been a massive problem to the locals in the city, coast and on the hills. The control of the water level has also heavily impacted the shipping and trace industry. It is now wide and deep enough to ensure safer navigation for the ships. Overall I think that the Dem has had a positive influence not only on the country but in other countries too. Because they are able to take this step into a better future, other countries can also take that step and learn from their mistakes.
