Further Analysis of Dolce & Gabbana’s China Campaign

We decided to take a deeper look into the controversy surrounding Dolce & Gabbana’s 2018 China Campaign. One of the most striking things about the commercial is the blatant use of stereotypes, showcasing a lady in a traditional Chinese dress. Furthermore, the music reinforces the archetype by sounding very old fashioned, in a sense mocking Chinese culture. When the lady begins to eat some of the Italian delicacies, it comes across very inappropriately, being as the narrator describes the Italian food as being more ‘complex’ as compared to Chinese food.
