Maths and Me

  1. My name is Firstian Fushada. I came from a school in Indonesia called Medan Independent School (MIS). I did Mathematics in MYP, which isn’t very challenging.
  2. During MYP, I used to associate Math with fun and excitement. After looking at the DP Math programme , I feel lost and I fear that I might not have the prior knowledge needed to succeed in this course.
  3.  On this Math continuum, I would put myself close to the middle, but slightly towards the right end of the spectrum. I enjoy working things out when I can, but having help makes me more comfortable studying.
  4. When I’m stuck on a Math question, I take a short break, and then try my best to look at the problem from a different perspective. If I get completely stuck, I would go to the internet, and finally ask my teacher for help.
  5. I think my biggest strength is interest. Most of the time, interest helps me feel motivated. For the first few weeks, I will definitely have to improve my diligence and optimism. Right now, I don’t feel prepared for the course at all, but hopefully a good balance between optimism and worry can help me improve.
  6. The most interesting thing about me is that I solve Rubik’s Cubes professionally. Other than that, I will really need help throughout Math HL. I’m not begging for top grades, but I am hoping to keep up with the others and learn a lot in the next two years!
