U19 Girls A Football Team: The Final Year

LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in you CAS experiences

Having been part of the girls U19 A football team since grade 9, this activity in particular has a special place in my heart. After injuring my left knee and having to get surgery during grade 11, I was finally able to play on the team this year. Even though I hadn’t played properly for a year, I managed to make the A team again and also the SEASAC team. During my time back on the team, I had to be careful not to push myself too far and injure myself again, as well as show the relatively new coach that although I coached with him last year, I was also a good player. Unfortunately, the weekend before the SEASAC tournament we had another tournament the Friday before. During this game a girl shoved me and I fell down on my knee, twisting it. I discovered that I had completely torn my ACL (again), completely torn my MCL, damaged my meniscus and partially tore a third ligament. I had to get surgery again and could no longer participate in the SEASAC tournament. This was incredibly difficult for me, because I had been so excited and grateful that I had another opportunity to go to this tournament and play with my team, but it was taken away from me and I had to get surgery again – meaning another full year of recovery without any sports or dance. This injury meant that I am also unable to participate in Dance Showcase this year, another one of my activities that I’ve been involved in throughout my high school experience. Thankfully, I was still able to go to SEASAC with the team and the boys team and so I could support them in some way, but having to stand on the sidelines and not play was also a huge challenge for me. I will always be grateful for the opportunities the school gave me to continue to show my dedication to the team, and it is just extremely unlucky that I injured myself again and at such horrible timing… But through this I’m dedicated and resolved to coming back stronger and quicker than I did before, so that I can enjoy the activities I love again.
