Transition to Grade Eleven

Currently, due to the unforeseen consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve had to move to a home-based learning program, which has caused many realizations and opportunities. As grade ten comes to an end, I am feeling both excited and nervous for IB. I have already made my choices for my higher-level subjects being Math AA, Biology and Chemistry, and my standard-level subjects being English Language and Literature, Chinese, and Psychology. I am most excited to further study subjects that I am passionate about, especially math, biology, and psychology. Psychology being a subject that we weren’t able to study at school in our previous grades, therefore I am really looking forward to learning more about the mind and human behaviors.

Since I was younger I had an interest in math, as it was one of those subjects I would look forward to during the day since junior school. Despite the controversial opinions towards this subject, I really enjoy taking time to solve really hard problems as it feels like a real challenge for me. However, after coming into middle school I have also built an interest in science, especially biology and chemistry. I believe that science plays a significant part in understanding the world we live in the reasoning behind every living organism, which to me is very intriguing.

Although many of my friends are feeling very pressured about the work-load we will face in IB, and I would also be lying if I were to say that I’m fully relaxed, however, I would like to take an optimistic approach towards this transition and is really looking forward to building new friendships, delving deeper into subjects that I’m passionate about and most importantly making many unforgettable memories that I’ll take away with me once I graduate.
