In the assembly our eyes were opened to the horrors of the modern world. It is commonly thought that slavery has been abolished a long time ago, but there are actually more slaves now then ever before. I was shocked by the fact that they were only able to help 0.2% of slaves. I found it interesting how he talked about the unwariness of modern slavery due to its name, human trafficking. Human trafficking is usually thought about as transporting prostitutes, but it is just transporting workers and not paying them. People realised that the fact that they were being transported wasn’t as important as the fact that they were workers who were being payed nothing and being forced to do job. I think I learnt through the presentation that raising awareness is one of the first steps to abolishing modern slavery as a lot of people do not know it exist.
Interesting blog post, it was nice to see you incorporate what you learned in your writing. One way you could have improved it is, perhaps, by relating the content to your own personal experiences. In addition, you could add in the actions you will take moving forward to make a contribution to solving this issue. This could be through looking into the companies you purchase products from and making sure they have policies in place that prevent workers being taken advantage of.
