U19 HS Tennis Team Girls

Season 2 reflection (Tennis Season)

I was excited about starting Tennis season as I was eager to play matches. Although I was slightly disappointed with not making it to the Varsity A team (because I was in the A team of my school in Hong Kong), I was very glad that I got to play for the Varsity B team and it was much better than not playing at all. Through this season,  I learned to both trust and rely on others. When you play a doubles game you must trust that your partner has your back all the time and when they miss a shot, they rely on you to get it. That is what makes teamwork. The feeling you get when you win a match lifts the spirits of the entire team because you are not just playing to win for yourself, but for the team.  This puts a lot of pressure on those who are on Varsity because their scores are what matters, but it is the battle and the win that makes it all worth it in the end. I was excited that we got to use the skills we developed in pre-season training to the test, on the court. Our season was cut a bit short because of Covid-19 restrictions, however, I took this motivational team spirit and used it in my private tennis practice. Tennis means a lot to me and although I may have been a little reluctant to join the team because I was new to UWC East, I am glad I took the risk. It has been vital for me to show perseverance and commitment because being a new member of the team, I have had to prove my abilities and secure my place in the squad. I have thoroughly enjoyed the process though and look forward to continuing with the team.
