Identity. The Reality

Our name is often one of the most integral factors that define and shape our character. We are given a word which we would be known/referred to as for the rest of our lives.

My name in Sanskrit means the ‘Sun’. This name is supposed to the convey happiness and hope. However, I do not feel as if this has affected my personality in any shape or form. I accepted the name and moved on. However, the majority of people in India believe that a name is supposed to convey who you and what you stand for.

I am not offended or irritated at all by the mispronunciation of my name. I believe that there bigger and better things to care about rather than directing and teaching people how to perfectly pronounce my name. Moreover, I feel that the name should be favoured to the person saying the name, the easier it is for them to say it the more recognisable it is for the person with the name.

My nickname is Avi. Several people ask me how Aryaman becomes Avi, well its a simple story.  I was named Avi when I was born, a few days later they thought the name was too small, thus, they changed it to Aryaman.
