Project Week Reflection – 1

LO – 3,5,6 and 7

I went on my Project Week trip with a group of 5 people to Tioman and we wanted to complete all the three categories of CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) in one trip. It might have seemed overambitious at the time, however, we managed to incorporate all of them and it ended up being an extremely fun time. For creativity, we did batik paintings.  These painting are made using wax to create the outline and the ink and to fill in the gaps. The process for batik painting turned out to be extremely relaxing and had a lot of fun talking to my friends while painting. We ended up doing this in the last few hours of our trip, thus, the planning and decision to complete this on before we left was great.

The activity aspect was the main part of trip. We went scuba diving, kayaking, snorkelling, hiking and played the local sport of Sepak Takraw. Scuba diving there was incredible. We saw turtles, sea urchins and even a small blacktip shark. We also went kayaking to different areas of Tioman island.

Moreover, while kayaking to the different areas of the island we picked up all the trash in the sea, we also went into mangroves and cleaned up all the rubbish thrown over the bridges. We also went to different beaches and cleaned up the trash there as well. This was service aspect of the trip. We did this to prevent the aquatic life from choking on the plastic as well as to prevent land pollution. We chose to engage with this particular issue of littering because all of us in the group are avid nature lovers and want to do our part in helping clean up and help the earth as much as we can. However, this task of cleaning up and in the places listed would not be possible alone. The fact that all 5 of us worked our hardest for 2 hours to just clean the beach. The amount of plastic collected was a lot and would take one person at least 6 hours to collect but because we all spread the work equally we were able to clean it up quickly and effectively. Overall, the trip was extremely fun and worthwhile, we did a lot of work and ended up having a lot of fun in the process as well.
