Mr. Lim Seng Kim is a warm and conversable man from the first time we met him on the screen. We introduced our local service and followed up with his introduction, and traced back to his living experiences. He was born in Singapore in the late 60s and was brought up in a place called Sembawang shipyard, located in the northeast of Singapore, where the only hot spring can be found. What surprised us the most was that he is in a big family living together with 8 siblings. Some of his relatives are now living in Myanmar and he said he would like to visit them in the future, possibly after the pandemic.
“我小时候，有想过去做一名记者。” (I was fascinated to become a reporter and journalist when I was young. )
From the conversation we had, we noticed he is exceedingly interested in politics and current affairs as a result of his earlier education as a literal student. After he graduated from Zhongshan high school in 1960, he went to work because his family could not afford the fees. According to him, he tried several jobs after his study career and had to enter society earlier than other same-aged teenagers. He did customer service as a public engineer and his main jobs were fixing and maintaining water pipes and gas tanks. When we asked him whether he has any hobbies at St Johns, he answered us immediately. He is fascinated by gardening and exclaimed that we could try his lemons one day. Gardening and reading newspapers take up the majority of his spare time in St Johns.
“以后有什么想做的事嘛？” (What’s your greatest wish for the future?)
“我希望，也在计划中，能回到缅甸去，和以前一起做工的商人朋友见面，再一起计划商业活动。” (I wish, and I’m currently planning to go back to Myanmar, to meet my business partner and host business activities together.)
“我想去英国和西班牙旅游，因为那里有悠久的历史。有战争，有殖民，发生了很多很多事情。” (I want to travel to the UK and Spain, because they have many prolific histories. There is war, colonization, lots of events.)
