ACT II

  • Lise, Raguneau’s wife, is dominant compared to him, yet is described as a shrew, dumpy, flirtatious which probably had bad connotations
  • Baker could be used to add tension, we read fast to try and find Cyrano meeting Roxane
  • Baker talks about his job but focuses on poetry
  • France is known for romantic intrigue, pastries, musketeers. Context – They just lost a war to Prussia, this is almost building pride for the french ( Cyr = captain France )
  • Poetry is more important than business
  • White flags blue eye thing is a good line,
  • Roxane holds his hand, then tells him she loves someone, could be that she knows that he likes her
  • Beautiful is the keyword
  • Roxane “I suppose ill have to die” a slight allusion to a woman’s role is solely love and marriage.
  • Roxane is smart, is she using charm to get him to do what she wants?
